What Happens During a Camera Inspection

We feed a waterproof camera on a flexible push-rod into the line through a gully, rodding eye or manhole. As it travels, you watch live video of the inside of the pipe on a screen. Joints, cracks, root intrusions and low spots all show up, along with how far down the line each one is.

When the camera finds a fault, a locator picks up the camera head from above ground, so we can mark the position and approximate depth on your paving or lawn. That's what makes a targeted repair possible. It's just as useful before buying an older house, after building work, or when a body corporate or insurer wants evidence.

  • Live footage from inside the pipe
  • Fault position and depth marked above ground
  • No digging for the inspection
  • Footage and short report on request

Causes Around Midrand

What Sits Behind These Problems in Midrand

Local ground, housing and weather all play a part. These are the causes we come across most on this kind of job:

Roots Through Old Clay Joints

Older clay sewers, common around Halfway House and the established parts of Midrand, have a joint every metre or so, and roots find them. In Midrand the first sign is usually a toilet that comes right after rodding, then blocks again a few weeks later. A camera run shows how many joints are affected before anyone talks about digging.

Pipes Moved by Clay Soil

Gauteng's clay swells in the rainy season and shrinks in winter. Over the years that movement cracks pipes, opens joints and leaves dips where waste settles. If rodding keeps 'fixing' the same drain, the pipe itself is the fault, and a sewer line repair on the damaged section is the lasting answer.

One Line, Several Units

In many Midrand complexes, each unit's sewer joins a common line before it reaches the street. A blockage near the end backs up into whoever sits lowest, even if they didn't cause it. We trace which section is blocked, clear it, and give the body corporate or managing agent a record of where it was and why.

Sand and Cement From Building Work

With new estates and renovations going up all over Midrand, building sand, grout and cement slurry get washed down drains. Loose sand can be flushed out with a jetter. Cement that has set inside the pipe is a different story, so we look at it on camera before deciding what it needs.

Water Coming Up Where It Shouldn't in Midrand?

Turn off taps, stop flushing and hold the washing machine, so the blockage has nothing more to push against. Then phone 082 550 3306, day or night. Inspections, quotes and non-urgent jobs go through the office on 087 700 7781.
